Lucifer oh sweet dear Lucifer how do I love thee let me count the ways. I am going to attempt the inform speculate and further inform as best I can, traditionalist please hold your questions as I am sure there will be many. I am the morning star Sumerian, Babylonian, and Greek you are going to love me. These where his first words to me, what an introduction right! The name Lucifer derives from the Latin term lucem ferre, bringer, or bearer, of light. So who is Lucifer really I believe him to be the fairest of the gods most impetuous at times, prideful, fighter for equality, and quite amazing, for his at times volatile nature has in very many cases brought about the evolution in some way of man. This is the essence of his nature knowledge applied, herald of evolution (or light) as well as death and the limitless knowledge that may be obtained in the afterlife (when he is in his hesphorus faze), he is the very catalyst for human evolution. Some seem to believe that he was only an idea or that he was evil however in the biblical story he is so often equated withan underlying theme emerges the fight for equality why should there be two types of servants to god ones with the power to choose and ones without we should be equal was the basis of his argument (Yes I know I know you all are going to yell at me here and say well NO that is not true he wanted to force humans into the same role as angles there for taking away their right to choose to that I say why is it fair to give one creation the right to choose and not the other, isn’t that much like treating the baby child better than the oldest or vice versa) . As an antagonist of heaven he forces humans to evolve and all though I am aware of the dubious connection between the actual god and the story driven from the king Helal, son of Shahar, which can best be translated as “Day star, son of the Dawn;” the conceptual connection still holds true, Lucifer’s defiance forces the human character to evolve (he makes the choice harder and more interesting). Lucifer the morning star Venus (the planet not the goddess) Venus is the planet most similar to the Earth in our solar system. Astrologers look to her as a signpost for love and art in the horoscope, as it indicates physical attraction and an optimistic attitude. In addition, Venus in esoteric astrology represents concrete knowledge. http://www.astrologysoftware.com/resources/articles/venus.asp?orig=
Venus was recording by the Babylonians in 3,000BC it is also mentioned in the astronomical records of a number of other ancient cultures such as China, Greece, Egypt, and Central America. http://www.religionfacts.com/da_vinci_code/pentacle.htm
These characteristics of Venus lend themselves to the prince of air himself, as he is linked to Eros here in this text and to the true nature of his being. As the bringer of light he is also associated with knowledge (be a god form, that being analytical in its very base form and nature) but knowledge applied these too are attributes of the King god Enlil. Lucifer by his association withthe planet Venus is quite aware of his sexual prowess, these aspects have come to be demonized as they are often reserved for women (and patriarchal religions have done their best to oust even minor hints of the goddess right down to her sexual nature), awareness and pride in the body, though I am trying to keep the Christian version of Lucifer out of my findings this sexual provocativeness is one aspect that coincides with that Christian being. As the male symbol of Venus he is by way of his very nature and that symbolism connected with Eros the god of love or male desire. Lucifer also finds an association with Eros through the Tuscan witches and there version of creation Diana is noted as the creator of all the being whom is first mother of all and her first born son is that of Lucifer.
I am going to attempt to link Lucifer with Eros Eosphorus, Hesophorus and Enlil, thus allowing for a more complete understanding of the nature of this god.
Hesperus and Eosphorusare the Greek morning and evening star both Venus, they are named as twins, however this came from their belief that the morning star and the evening star were two different celestial bodies. The Greeks came to believe the Babylonian idea that the morning and even star where indeed the same and this is when the twin became one. Eosphorusis the morning star as is Lucifer they are equated with each other by function and form.
(ll. 116-138) Verily at the first Chaos came to be, but next wide-bosomed Earth, the ever-sure foundations of all (4) the deathless ones who hold the peaks of snowy Olympus, and dim Tartarusin the depth of the wide-pathed Earth, and Eros (Love), fairest among the deathless gods, who unnerves the limbs and overcomes the mind and wise counsels of all gods and all men within them. From Chaos came forthErebus and black Night; but of Night were born Aether (5) and Day, whom she conceived and bare from union in love with Erebus. And Earth first bare starry Heaven, equal to herself, to cover her on every side, and to be an ever-sure abiding-place for the blessed gods. And she brought forthlong Hills, graceful haunts of the goddess-Nymphs who dwell amongst the glens of the hills. She bare also the fruitless deep with his raging swell, Pontus, without sweet union of love. But afterwards she lay with Heaven and bare deep-swirling Oceanus, Coeus and Crius and Hyperion and Iapetus, Theia and Rhea, Themis and Mnemosyne and gold-crowned Phoebe and lovely Tethys. After them was born Cronos the wily, youngest and most terrible of her children, and he hated his lusty sire. This is an excerpt taken from, The Theogony of Hesiod translated by Hugh G. Evelyn-White provided by www.sacred-text.com
In this excerpt let’s examine the nature of Eros, Hesiod tells us that Eros is first from chaos along with Earth and Tartarus and Nyxof course. Hesiod gives Eros the title fairest of the Deathless gods this is important to examine it indicates that there are some divine beings that are not immortal however Eros is and was the first of the immortal gods. Another oddity Eros, love is considered wise and councils men and gods, Love equated withwisdom. I am sure that Greeks felt love and knew that love was not always wise and even those of us who have been in love can attest to the stupid things we have done for the sake of love. Could Hesiod’s meaning be that Eros was a wise council, using knowledge in the wisest way? (Sure I think he could be saying that it is for you to decide) If this is indeed the case than is not Eros by this nature connected with that of Lucifer?
The Orphics equated Phanes with the Elder Eros (Sexual Desire) of Hesiod’s Theogony, who emerged at the beginning of time alongside Khaos (Air) and Gaia (Earth). PHANES was the Protogenos (primeval god) of procreation in the Orphic cosmogony. He was the primal generator of life, the driving force behind reproduction in the early cosmos.Phanes also incorporated aspects of other primordial beings described by various ancient writers including Thesis, Phusis, Ophion, Khronos and Ananke. Phanes also appears in myth in the guise of Metis(i.e. Thetis, Thesis, creation), the goddess devoured by Zeus.
This is an excerpt taken from http://www.theoi.com/Ouranios/Eros.html now why again would Eros the god of love be equated by disguise with wisdom. Eros is also named in a sense as a creator god in Aristophanes, Birds 685 ff (trans. O’Neill) (Greek comedy C5th to 4th B.C.) : Aristophanes, Birds 685 ff (trans. O’Neill) (Greek comedy C5th to 4th B.C.) :
“At the beginning there was only Khaos (Air), Nyx (Night), dark Erebos (Darkness), and deep Tartaros (Hell’s Pit). Ge (Earth), Aer (Air) [i.e. Aither the upper air] and Ouranos (Heaven) had no existence. Firstly, black-winged Nyx (Night) laid a germless egg in the bosom of the infinite deeps of Erebos (Darkness), and from this, after the revolution of long ages, sprang the graceful Eros [Himeros the elder eros] with his glittering golden wings, swift as the whirlwinds of the tempest. He mated [or fertilised] in deep Tartaros(Hell-Pit) with dark Khaos (Air), winged like himself, and thus hatched forth our race, which was the first to see the light. That of the Immortals did not exist until Eros had brought together all the ingredients of the world, and from their marriage Ouranos (Heaven), Okeanos (Ocean), Ge (Earth) and the imperishable race of blessed gods (Theoi) sprang into being.
This idea begins to appear that it was Eros who was the catalyst for human evolution without him the stuff of the world would not have been gathered harmoniously to create the Olympian gods or humans. There is also an under tone of Eros being equated with wisdom (Are we beginning to see a link here). Eros, the Greek god of love and sexual desire (the word eros, which is found in the Iliad by Homer, is a common noun meaning sexual desire). He was also worshiped as a fertility god, believed to be a contemporary of the primeval Chaos, which makes Eros one of the oldest gods. In the Dionysian Mysteries Eros is referred to as “protagonus”, the first born. But there are many variations to whom the parents of Eros really where. According to Aristophanes (Birds) he was born from Erebus and Nyx (Night); in later mythology Eros is the offspring of Aphrodite and Ares; Yet in the Theogony, the epic poem written by Hesiod, it mentions a typified Eros as being an attendant of Aphrodite, but not her son. http://www.ask.com/bar?q=Eros&page=1&qsrc=0&ab=0&u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pantheon.org%2Farticles%2Fe%2Feros.htmlby Ron Leadbetter.
A fertility god hmmm, Eros the god of love and desire a FERTILITY god why could this be true!!!!
Enlil is seen to be the father of all gods, first born son of heaven (Anu) and earth(Ki). The breath of the satisfied god Anu, as this his son grew restless and impetuous he ripped the union of sky and earth (could this be the Sumerian explanation of chaos the union of earth and sky?) separating sky father and earth mother forever. This was his first act of evolution had the sky and earth been content to stay together the race of man would not have come into being, and though the method is different from that of Eros it can be seen to have the same effect. Enlil was also worshipped as a god of fertility and agriculture as well as wisdom giving man the tools and knowledge to use them, but more over he was known to be the god of air his name literally translated means “Lord aloft” it can also be said as “Lord of the Open” or “Lord of Wind”. There may be a misconception that he is a mountain god this is incorrect Enlil was indeed king or lord of the mountain temple in Nippur, whihc is where the misconception may have stemmed from. Enlil makes appearance in the epic of Gilgamesh. In the great flood myth (portion of Gilgamesh where he talks to the only immortal man) he is the antagonist of man sending plague and famine to kill the humans who are creating a loud noise on earth. This myth reveals that this was the only way for humans to die then, Enlil was helping the humans to spiritually evolve without the deathand rebirth cycle we could not fulfill our spiritual destiny (returning to the source from which we came to be more complete beings) nor could we through multiple lives experience the knowledge gained by being an alternative sex. Enlil served only to help man even in those times when it seemed he did not.

Time line showing that Persian invasion and there for contact with Mesopotamian culture and religion is in the pre-Hellenic period. Is it a stretch to believe that trade and commerce was conducted between these two cultures and just as the Goddess Tinat was brought back to Spain from Carthage in northern Africa by Spanish sailors; Mesopotamian gods could have been supplanted from cultures that trade or study was possible (Um can we say Greece anyone)? In fact it is not a stretch to believe this at all as the goddesses Athena, and Aphrodite are both equated to and possibly driven from the goddess Ishtar-Astarte (Walter Burkert Greek Religion pg140 & pg152-153 this is used as Harvard text) Burkertdiscusses how Ishtar-Astarte cult practices where similar to that of Aphrodite. Iconography links bothAthena withIshtar; she is also shown withhelmet raised spear and buckler or shield; Ishtar-Astarte also possesses iconography that shows her in the form of Aphrodite. Ishtar-Astarte is shown as both male and female which shows her androgynous nature (Athena anyone). Aphrodite cults showed similar practices of temple prostitution, the bearded Ashtar beside Astarte, just as there is a bearded Ahproditos beside Aphrodite. Astarte is called queen of heaven just as Aphrodite is called heavenly, Urania. Astarte is worshipped in the same way incense and dove sacrifices which belongs solely to Aphrodite in the Greek pantheon. There is also evidence for cross cultural influence by the words used in the Epic of Gilgamish when Enkidu curses the Hetaera (these where women in Greece who were treated differently had to wear different dress and pay taxes they were considered courtesans renowned for their skill in music and dance somewhat of a professional prostitute) http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/hetaera?jss=1.

Now look to the far right and you will see our darling Lucifer with golden wings (like that mentioned earlier belonging to Eros), and wearing a crown also scantily clad while Eosthe dawn and the sun remain fully clothed (the caption for this image says they are all depicted with aureoles however if this is indeed that case why is it that Eos and Helios’ aureoles are so similar while Lucifer/Eosphorus’ is not all like theirs; Hmmmm I wonder). Though in this image it is hard to see please take the time to note the similarities in them.

Why have I gone to such great lengths to make this connection my personal relationship with this deity demands that I do so to give you a more complete view of who Lucifer really is I have to the best of my limited abilities to keep the Christian view of him out of this writing however there are more extensive text that us this figure to link these five gods together Eosphorus and Hesperus by way of Lucifer, Lucifer to Enlil, and Eros to Enlil provided below are some links to these texts.

These may be taken as you choose always take everything you read with a grain of salt and sometimes two. Why have I gone to all this trouble to make this link… I feel that for his followers it will give a more acurate picture of him and what he is like. I have the benefit of having a Sister that shares my patron we often speak about our experiances with him without this kind of interaction I would be lost, I hope this can be an outlet for those who do not have the same benefit. The god of light the morning star is an amazing being a presence that teaches through what he would call fun (often at our expenses). I hope this helps in some small way those who are seeking Knowledge Applied (this is often his main interest that and himself and how pretty he is) and the prince of Air.
